Abstract
Two main sources are proposed for noises and vibrations during operation of elevators: one is noises and vibrations from a traction machine and the other is vibrations caused during driving guide shoes along rails. In particular, deformation and misalignment of guide rails mainly causes vibrations between guide shoes and rails.
The misalignment stems from poor straightness or improper construction of a joint part between guide rails, which has been overcome thanks to training and improvement of measurement systems. The deformation, however, is an inherent problem originated from an inadequate design which might cause overload imposed on the guide rails from a car.
Although major companies of the inside and outside of the country have drawn much effort on research and development to solve this problem, small and medium enterprises, which mainly produce the freight elevators, tend to reply on previous experiences rather than accurate engineering and data.
In this study, we carried out numerical analyses and investigate stress and displacement of 24K guide rails by changing (1) the distance of brackets of the guide rails and (2) the applied weight during operation of an instantaneous safety device that suppresses free falling induced by breakage of ropes or malfunction of control systems of a car.
