Growth and luminescence properties of Mn2+ ions doped in LiBaF3 single crystals
- Abstract
- The manganese doped LiBaF3 single crystals were grown by the Czochralski method. The conditions of preparation and growth of manganese doped LiBaF3 were investigated. The different concentrations of Mn-doped powder were checked by XRD. The reaction conditions were investigated to get pure LiBaF3 powder. The Mn2+ ion substitutes for Ba2+ ion or the Li+ ion in the LiBaF3 crystal. The emission spectra showed the 3d-3d band emission peak at 515 nm when Mn2+ is substituted into the Ba2+ in the cubic crystalline field. Another band emission peak was found centered at 750 nm which could be ascribed to 3d-3d emission of Mn2+ when it substitutes for Li+ in the octahedral crystal field. The spectra of Mn2+-doped crystals with different concentrates were compared. The luminescent lifetime of 515 nm and 750 nm emissions were measured under different temperatures. The lifetime curves show the temperature quenching of 4T1-6A1 emission level. The zero-phonon lines of the 3d-3d transition in two kinds of sites were observed at the low temperature.
