Comparative Performance Analysis of Block Cryptography Mode in TCP/IP Environments
Abstract
Information society has introduced a variety of information and communications and has also led an establishment of information infrastructure as well as the necessity of information security. Recently, information security has become an important issue in counteracting various hackings and information leakages.
This thesis presents comparative performance study of block cryptography techniques that are currently employed in the TCP/IP protocols such as ECB, CBC, CFB, OFB and CTR. These modes utilize identical keys for encryption and decryption. The comparative evaluations show that CBC is superior to other modes in terms of the speed of encryption and decryption and immunity against attacks.
