성격유형과 수학 영역별 학업성취도의 관계
- Abstract
- The purpose of this research is to provide the basic material of mathematics teaching and learning with the analysis of the relationship between personality types and academic achievement in mathematics of each field (numbers and operations, geometry and figures measurement, statistics and probability, letters and expressions, patterns and functions).
To attain these goals, the study questions below are set up:
First, analyze the four preference dispositions of character types (E-I, S-N, T-F, J-P) make any difference in the academic achievement in mathematics of each field.
Second, investigate the four function of character types (ST, SF, NT, NF) make any difference in the academic achievement in mathematics of each field.
Third, examine the four tempers of character types (SP, SJ, NT, NF) make any difference in the academic achievement in mathematics of each field.
Participants in this study were a total of 222 first grade students in S girls’ middle school in Busan. Personality types were based on the test of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). To measure the academic achievement in mathematics of each field, the result of the third district middle school placement test of the 2010 academic year by Dongrea Bureau of Education was used. The test consisted of 4 questions each field, 20 questions in total. SAS 9.13 Version program was used for the analysis of the relations among variables.
The results were as follows:
First, the results of the academic achievement in mathematics caused by the four preference dispositions (E-I, S-N, T-F, J-P) showed a meaningful difference. In more detail, E-I preference dispositions made a meaningful difference in 3 fields: statistics and probability, numbers and operations, patterns and functions. And S-N made a meaningful difference in 1 field: letters and expressions.
Second, according to the results of the academic achievement in mathematics caused by the four functions (ST, SF, NT, NF) made no meaningful difference. But N-F showed the highest average scores in 3 fields: numbers and operations, geometry and figures measurement, letters and expressions. And S-F marked the lowest average scores in all fields except for geometry and figures measurement.
Third, according to the results of the academic achievement in mathematics caused by the four tempers (SP, SJ, NT, NF)made no meaningful difference. But N-F and S-P showed and meaningful difference in the academic achievement in mathematics on the average scores: N-F marked the highest in numbers and operations, geometry and figures measurement, letters and expressions. And S-P, however, showed the lowest in all fields.
In the conclusion, personality types have an effect on the academic achievement in mathematics of each field.
