- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to investigate family strengths, ego-resilience and satisfaction with school life according to students' family structure. The research addressed the following questions:
1. Are there significant differences among the family strength, ego-resilience and satisfaction with school life according to students' family structure?
2. How much do family strength, ego-resilience of children with a parent family affect satisfaction with school life?
3. How much do family strength and ego-resilience of children with a single-parent family affect satisfaction with school life?
The subjects for this study consisted of 912 children drawn from fifth and sixth grade students at elementary schools in Pusan. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 12.0. Pearson’s product-moment coefficient of correlation and stepwise multiple regression were analyzed.
The results of the study were as follows:
First, it was shown that Parent family had higher family strengths, ego-resilience and satisfction with school life level than Single-parent family
Secondly, in children with a parent family, family strengths is a more powerful predictor of satisfaction with school life than ego-resilience. It means family strengths has more influence on satisfaction with school life than ego-resilience.
Thirdly, in children with a single-parent family, ego-resilience is a more powerful predictor of satisfaction with school life than family strengths. It means ego-resilience has more influence on satisfaction with school life than family strengths.
