Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of children's sex and the social information procedure upon their aggression. For this, study questions were established as follows: First, 'Is there any difference in children's subtypes of aggression by their sex and the social information procedure?' Second, 'Is there any difference in children's mechanism of aggression by their sex and the social information procedure?' Third, 'Is there any difference in children's two-dimensional aggression by their sex and the social information procedure?' Study subjects were 363 fifth and sixth graders at a primary school in Busan Metropolitan City and a questionnaire survey of them was carried out. Collected data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA using SPSS 14.0 program. Study findings are as follows: First, children's sex had influence upon their overt aggression, but it had no influences upon their relational aggression. However, children's interpretation process of social information procedure had influences upon their overt aggression and relational aggression alike. On the other hand, the interaction of sex and interpretation process of social information procedure had no influences upon the pattern of aggression. Second, children's sex and interpretation process of social information procedure had influences upon their proactive aggression and reactive aggression―two mechanisms of children's aggression―alike. However, the interaction of sex and interpretation process of social information procedure had no influences upon children's mechanism of aggression. Third, children's sex had a significant influences upon proactive-overt aggression, reactive-overt aggression and proactive-relational aggression. However, it had no significant influences upon reactive-relational aggression. Children's interpretation process of social information procedure had a significant influences upon proactive-relational aggression, reactive-relational aggression and reactive-overt aggression, but it had no significant influences upon proactive-overt aggression. In addition, the interaction of sex and explanation had no influences upon every dimension of two-dimensional aggression.
