A Study on the Simple Educational Media Delivery System utilizing Micro SD Cards for Ubiquitous Learning
Abstract
It is being predicted that the ubiquitous computing technology has various and wide influence on overall fields such as education and training, environment control, logistics, medical treatment, home appliance and communication, etc. as well as information & communication fields due to development of the recent information & communication technology, and it would bring about a basic revolution on human life.
The ubiquitous technology development like this is also bringing about much change in the field of education. The current education is being gradually changed from an educational environment being executed only at a fixed place during a fixed period to a learner-oriented educational environment. At this point of time, the ubiquitous learning, which learners can learn what they want anytime and anywhere, regardless of their place and transfer means, is necessary.
The ubiquitous learning is to provide an environment that the integrated learning system utilizing open learning resources by selection according to the necessity of learners is possible, and at present, the activity for connecting the functions such as portability and convenience to education is being focused on. The existing ubiquitous learning was carried out without physical and temporal constraints.
In order that the ubiquitous learning, which the learning that learners want was carried out under a network environment, can be executed according to circumstances of learners without physical and temporal constraints and transfer means, the present thesis allows learners to learn even under the non-network environment through utilization of a micro SD card. In case of a previously used memory, as the ubiquitous learning is possible under only a network environment, so the role of a memory as educational delivery media was vulnerable. Therefore, the present thesis makes delivery of educational media simple through media such as mobile devices, TV, navigation, video, digital camera, PDA, etc. that the micro SD card can be built-in by mounting the existing educational media delivery system as well as learning contents on a micro SD card to complement these vulnerabilities.
The development of memory card technology is focusing on large capacity and miniaturization. With the daily development of memory technology, the micro SD card is adding convenience to our life, while the expansion space, which all electronic devices can be mounted on, is separately made. The micro SD card contained a problem of insufficiency of capacity as the smallest card being currently released to the market, but the micro SD card with 32GB was released to the market in 2009, and currently, the micro SD card with 64GB was released to the market in 2010.
By learning through the micro SD card equipped with portability, simplicity, replacement and easiness of learning information approach, the traffic on a network is reduced, and there is a merit that it can be always reproduced when learners need. And because the communication expenses can be reduced by long duration of networking, the learning using the micro SD card would be valuable.
The purpose of the present thesis is to utilize time efficiently and approach educational media simply and conveniently by making the ubiquitous learning possible under even a non-network environment through use of the micro SD card.
It is judged that the present thesis could make a learner-oriented learning activity environment possible, expand learning opportunities and achieve more efficient education by providing an efficient, convenient, simple and educational media delivery system to learners.
