A Comparative Analysis of English Textbook Content Systems of the 7th Curriculum and the Revised Curriculum.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to show how well the 7th revised curriculum is reflected in the English textbook. For this, this study compares six kinds of the revised English textbooks of the 1st middle school with the non-revised ones in terms of the content system. The main results of comparison are as follows:
First, the organization of the six revised textbooks was L-S-R-W order. The supplementary and the advanced parts in the English textbook was eliminated. The 7th curriculum suggested the supplementary and the advanced parts in the English textbook. However, this system has made many problems. So it was eliminated in the revised English textbooks. Instead of it, the revised curriculum suggests ‘Activities’ book for the level education.
Second, in selecting topics, the contents of the revised textbooks were similar to those of the non-revised. The foreign cultural part was integrated and suggested in the reading part. The 7th curriculum has separated the foreign cultural part from the reading part and suggested special part for the foreign culture. However, the revised curriculum suggests the foreign culture in the reading part without the special part.
Finally, for the new vocabularies, the vocabularies were not enough or
over in terms of the standard vocabulary numbers. So, the non-revised and revised textbooks didn't follow the standard of the curriculum well.
