Abstract
This study analyzed the efficiency of introducing HACCP(Hazard Analysis and Critical Point) centered on aquatic products distributors and processing vendors in Busan area by using DEA Model.
HACCP is a systematical regulation which scientifically analyzes the situations where biologically harmful elements, chemically harmful elements and physically harmful elements may occur during food-making process and blocks the conditions for harmful elements to occur in advance so as to provide safe and clean products to consumers. In Korea, HACCP System has been actively performed in the fields of agriculture and livestock industry and recently, it is actively introduced to the fishing industry centered on exporters.
This study used DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) Model to analyze the efficiency in introducing HACCP of aquatic products distributors and processing vendors. DEA Model analyzes relative efficiency of the target (DMU-Decision Making Unit) by using various variables. The target of analysis in this study 36 aquatic products distributors and processing vendors located in Busan area. Among 36 targets of analysis, 16 companies introduced HACCP and the other 20 did not.
If this study proves the efficient management of aquatic products distributors and processing vendors by introducing HACCP, then the fishing industry should actively introduce HACCP System like the cases of agriculture and livestock industry. In addition, DEA can be helpful in finding relatively inefficient vendors and we can look for improvement measure by using another economic analysis model which shows specific causes of inefficiency.
