The Effects of the Constructive Instruction on the Middle School Learner's Scientific Attitude and Achievement based on ICT
Abstract
The effects of the constructive instruction on the middle school learner's scientific attitude and achievement based on ICT(Information and Communication Technology) were examined in details in this study. The first grade, 83 students were selected from middle school in Busan for experimental group and comparative group. The constructive instruction based on ICT was used for the experimental group, and the traditional instruction was used for the comparative group. The period of this study was from November, 2007 to December, 2007(four weeks, 12 hours). The following methods was employed for this objects; First, the identification of experimental group and comparative group were analyzed by t-test of the pre-Scientific Attitude and the pre-Achievement test. Second, the unit ‘Separation of Mixed-Material’ lesson was adopted for each instruction. Third, the post-Scientific Attitude and the post-Achievement test were carried out at the end of lesson. Fourth, there was comprehensive questionnaire and answer to collect student's idea about the constructive instruction based on ICT at the end of the final lesson. Fifth, One-Way ANOVA was used to compare the effects of the scientific attitude and achievement. SPSS(ver 15.0) was used for statistics.
The result of this study are analyzed as the followed; First, in case of the science attitude, the constructive instruction based on ICT was more effective than traditional instruction on the middle school learner's science attitude. Second, the compared result after dividing the science attitude into six smaller domains, the constructive instruction based on ICT had special effect on the ‘Interest of science’ and ‘Interest of science lesson’ domain. Third, in case of the achievement, the constructive instruction based on ICT was more effective than traditional instruction on the middle school learner's achievement. Fourth, after dividing the experimental group into three smaller groups depending on study level(upper, intermediate, lower group), the comparison results of the achievement of each small group showed that the intermediate group had improved than the other groups.
This investigation showed that the students were interested in the constructive instruction based on ICT. The students wanted to run class activities by manipulating with larger equipments and data.
