국어지식 영역 학습활동의 개선을 통한 한글 맞춤법 지도 방안

Abstract

본 연구는 중학생들의 한글 맞춤법 사용 능력을 향상시킬 방법을 모색할 목적으로 국어지식 영역과 연계한 교육 방안을 고안해 보고자 하였다. 우리나라 학생들이 본격적으로 맞춤법을 배우는 시기는 중학교 때이며, 이때의 맞춤법 실력은 성인이 된 이후까지 이어지게 된다. 그런데 중학교 때의 맞춤법 교육이 얼마나 효과적으로 이루어지고 있는가를 교육과정과 교과서를 통해 살펴본 결과, 교육과정 자체의 맞춤법에 대한 부족한 내용 선정, 교과서 내의 맞춤법 고유의 단원의 부재, 불확실한 맞춤법 조항 선정 기준 등의 문제점들이 드러났다. 그 중 심각한 것은 타 영역과 연계되지 않고 오직 한 단원 내에서만 맞춤법이 다루어지며 그 근본 원리가 되는 국어 지식 전반과 격리되어 있다는 점과, 학습활동이 맞춤법 조항을 내세우기보다 ‘예시 제시’의 단계에서 개별 단어 고치기 형태로 나타나고 있다는 점이었다. 이러한 문제점들을 보아, 학생들이 중학교 과정 내에서 가능한 맞춤법 조항들을 최대한 익혀나갈 수 있도록 중학생들의 교육 대상이 될 수 있는 한글 맞춤법 조항을 새로이 선정하고, 선정된 조항을 국어지식 영역의 타 단원들과 연계시킬 학습 방안을 탐구하였다. 학습 방안은 학습활동의 재구성으로 이루어졌는데, 기존 교과서 내용에 맞춤법 조항을 더해 해당 단원의 ‘국어 지식’과 ‘맞춤법 조항’을 함께 익힐 수 있는 수업 방안을 제시하였다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐 연구의 마지막에는 국어지식 영역을 통한 맞춤법 지도의 실제 수업 지도안과 지도 방안을 학습활동을 보충?수정한 각 단원별로 세부적으로 마련하여 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to devise a teaching method for the Korean spelling system in association with the area of knowledge on the Korean language in a bid to help improve the spelling skills of middle schoolers. Students start to learn about the spelling system on a full scale in middle school, and their spelling skills last throughout their lives with little changes. When the middle school curriculum and textbooks were analyzed to determine the effectiveness of spelling education, there appeared something wrong with that. The curriculum didn't deal with the spelling rules in a sufficient manner. The textbooks were devoid of separate units about the spelling system, and the selection criteria of the spelling rules were ambiguous. Another serious problem was that the spelling system was taught just in a unit without being related to other areas including knowledge on the Korean language that was the basic principle of the spelling system. And only the kind of learning activities that called on leaners to correct the incorrect words of the given sentences was presented instead of handling the spelling system properly. Given the problems with the spelling education, the spelling rules that middle schoolers have to learn were selected in this study in order for them to acquire every required spelling rule in middle school, and how to teach the selected rules in conjunction with the other units of the Korean knowledge area was explored. The existing learning materials were reorganized, and lesson plans were mapped out to insert the spelling rules in existing textbooks to let learners acquire the knowledge on the Korean language and spelling rules at the same time. Finally, teaching plans that deal with the spelling system in association with the Korean knowledge area were presented, and how to perform the revised learning activities in each unit was suggested in detail.
