Effects of Basic Fine Arts Education on The Computer Graphic Curriculum : Based on the specialized vocational high schools in Busan
Abstract
As an art changes rapidly in this society, the importance of design is getting bigger and more professional talent is needed for support. In line with that trend, the interest for design is also increased in many vocational schools which aim at cultivating specialized human resources. Variety of high schools specialized in design, picture, fashion, tourism and information technology field is putting efforts into the design education to foster creative and ingenious personnel.
The areas of art can be interpreted in many different ways, and the methods of expression are trying to get out of the limited activities that were largely focused on using the tool in the past. In design area occupying big portion of modern art, the presentation using computer is revealed in the whole sector of society. Eventually, the computer graphic design activities are more universalized these days. Current design education requires modern design activities by using medium called computer graphics, while it was implemented by using hands in the past. Majority of vocational high schools are teaching computer graphics during their design class to train the professionals upon demands of society, and this helps students' social activities after their graduation.
However, considering the rapidly changing art world and the design education, now it is time to investigate whether the role of basic fine arts is implemented appropriately, and also ask questions if the foundation as a designer is set firmly.
With regard to these considerations, the current educational status is compared and analyzed in that the design education using computer is simply hardened as a technical education. In particular, it examines the graphic curriculum of vocational high schools in Busan, and brings up the improving measures to cultivate talent who will be the main driver for developing the graphic industry.
