대안 교재를 활용한 『운영전』의 효과적인 교육 방안 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 고전소설 교육 방법의 개선에 목적을 두고, 현 교육 환경에서의 문제점을 파악하여 대안 교재를 통한 효율적인 고전소설 교육 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 우선 현재 고등학교 고전소설 교육의 실태와 문제점을 짚어 보고자, 7차 교육과정에서 이 수록된 단원, 학습 목표, 학습활동 과제의 적절성을 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 고전소설 교육의 현황과 문제점을 살펴본 후 문제점을 개선할 수 있는 방안을 교육의 '수단‘이자 ‘도구’의 측면인 교재에서 찾아보았다. 그리고 기존 교과서에 대한 부정적인 인식을 바꾸고 고전소설 교육을 효율적으로 하기 위해 현 교과서의 대안적 수단으로 대안 교재를 선정하였다. 대안 교재란, ‘현 공교육 현장에서 사용되고 있는 교과서의 한계를 극복하기 위한 대안적 수단으로 사용하는 교재’이다. 곧, 대안 교재라는 것은 어떤 고정된 특정한 교재가 아니라 ‘지속적인 고민을 거쳐 학습 환경과 목적에 적합한 텍스트와 학습 활동을 재구성한 수업자료’라고 할 수 있다. 국어과의 대표적인 대안 교재로는 『우리말 우리글』이 있다. 『우리말 우리글』의 단원 분석을 통해 대안 교재의 활용 현황과 의의를 살펴보았다. 『우리말 우리글』은 국정 교과서에 비해 학생의 흥미와 적성을 고려한 노력이 보이나 단원만을 살펴보았을 때 몇 가지 아쉬운 점이 보였다. 따라서 본고에서는 의 대안적 수단으로 『손가락에 잘못 떨어진 먹물한 방울』을 교재로 선정하여 대안 교재로서의 가치를 분석해 본 후, 대안 교재를 활용한 의 지도 방안을 제시하였다. 고전소설 교육에 있어 오늘날까지 해결되지 않는 가장 큰 문제점인 고전소설에 대한 학생들의 부정적인 인식과, 부분 읽기로 인해 고전소설의 진정한 아름다움과 의미를 알지 못한다는 점을 우선적으로 해결할 수 있다는 점에서 효과적인 방안이 될 것이다. 사실 우리는 지금까지 교과서를 도구로 하는 수업이 아닌 교과서를 가르치는 수업을 해 왔다는 비판을 받았다. 그러나 여전히 교과서만 가르치기에도 벅찬데다가 다른 수단으로 가르치려고 해도 여건이 뒷받침되지 않는 경우도 있다. 또한 현재까지도 텍스트의 개발이나 적절한 구성의 교재는 부족한 실정이며 그에 맞는 교수-학습 방법의 개발도 부족한 것이 사실이다. 그러나 그렇다고 해서 대안 교재와 관련한 교육적 노력을 등한시 할 수는 없는 일이다. 현실을 좀 더 나은 방향으로 돌릴 수 있는 힘이 교육에 있다고 믿는다. 그 힘은 교과서에도 있을 것이고 교과서 밖에서도 있을 것이다. 가능성에 대한 부족한 시도였지만 앞으로 부족한 부분을 계속 보충해 나갈 수 있으리라 생각한다.
