동사 get의 다의성에 관한 인지적 접근
- Alternative Title
- A Cognitive Approach to the Polysemy of the Verb get
- Abstract
- The verb get is one of the most frequently used verbs. When the verb get is used in various contexts and situation, it has a lot of meaning extensions. This thesis aims to analyze the polysemy of the verb get in the framework of Cognitive Grammar.
To analyze the systematic relationship among the interrelated meanings of get, this thesis adopts the notion that the core meaning of get is 'to make a patient move from a source to a goal' as proposed by Lee (2004).
From the core meaning, the study shows the following: First of all, the relationships among the various meanings of get are obtained by applying the profile shift to the same conceptual base. Second, semantic extension from the core meaning to the abstract meaning results from the domain shift.
This study recommends semantic extension as one way of learning vocabulary. Also, it is helpful for the nonnative students to understand the various meanings of a vocabulary item more easily and effectively.
