An experimental study on the performance of clothes dryer using thermoelectric module
Abstract
This study was performed to develop a dryer for home clothes using thermoelectric module. The thermoelectric module was used as a heat source and a dehumidification device because it has heating part and cooling part at once. This study showed that the thermoelectric module can be used in the clothes dryer and energy efficiency of clothes dryer be better than that of electric heating dryer. A main purpose of this study is figuring out the appropriate range of required heat input, inlet circulate flow rate for deciding and melting drying capacity with minimum electric power consumption.
The test setup of experimental apparatus was composed clothes dryer box, thermoelectric modules, additional electric heater, inlet circulate fans and data logger. To design for maximizing the energy efficiency and the rate of dehumidification, amount of heat input and inlet circulate air flow rate vary according to economic situation, weather condition and installation place. Experiment was performed under inlet circulate air flow rates(0.0237㎥/s, 0.0474㎥/s, 0.0711㎥/s), additional heat capacities(100W, 200W, 300W).
From the experimental result, heat capacity in 200W was maximum value of energy efficiency and dehumidification rate. And they appeared by better thing in the air circulation amount of 0.0474 ㎥/s. This study showed that thermoelectric module can be a good tool to improve the energy efficient of dehumidifying and drying process of clothes dyer.
