우리말 언어구조와 운율 교육

Abstract

문학은 언어를 도구로 한 예술 행위이다. 특히 ‘인간 감정의 가장 고도한 언어적 사용’으로서 '운율' 을 빚어내는 시는 서사성을 띤 문학 갈래에 비해 그 나라의 언어 구조와 보다 긴밀한 관련을 맺고 있다. 곧 시는 그 나라의 언어 구조가 가진 내적 자질에 따르기도 하고, 때로는 일련의 언어규칙을 깨뜨려 텍스트 본위의 운율을 형성한다. 문학에서는 이를 ‘시적 허용’이라는 용어를 빌어, 더 큰 운율의 틀 안에 포용해 낸다. 이 글은 우리말에 내재한 언어 구조상의 특질이 운율 실현에 작용하는 다양한 양상을 관찰하고, 둘을 연계한 운율 교육 방안을 마련하는 데 그 목적을 두었다. 기존의 한국시 운율 연구는 우리말 언어구조에 대한 전면적인 이해 아래 이루어지지 않았다. 이를 보완해, 이 글에서는 운율을 이해하는 데 있어 그 하위 자질을 우리말 언어 구조의 위계에 따라 나누었다. 또 개별 독자의 읽기 과정에서 나타나는 주관적 운율 자질까지 포용하려고 했다. 또 본문의 마지막 장에, 국어과 교육 영역 내 '문학'과 '국어지식'의 통합을 고려한 수업 지도안을 마련해, 이 글이 실제 교실에서의 운율 교수-학습시 다양하게 활용될 수 있는 방안을 모색해 보았다. 2장에서는 우리시에서 운율을 형성하는 자질을 크게 문법적 자질과 정서적 자질로 나누었다. 특히 문법적 자질을 다시 우리말 언어구조의 층위에 따라 세분하여, 우리말의 언어구조와 우리시 운율과의 내재적 연관성을 찾으려 했다. 또 개별독자에 따른 율독상의 차이를 정서적 자질로 파악해 수용미학의 측면에서 이를 포용하였다. 3장에서는 운율에 대해 남다른 감성을 지녔던 두 현대시인의 시를 바탕으로 우리시의 운율 실현 양상을 고찰해 보았고, 우리말 언어구조와 연계한 운율 이해의 구체적 과정을 보여 주었다. 4장에서는 '국어지식과 문학 영역의 통합 교육'이란 기치 아래, 두 영역의 학습 내용을 적절히 통합할 수 있는 가능성을 조망해 보았다. 또 이 글에서 논의한 내용을 실제 수업 장면에서 구체화하는 방법을 담은 수업 지도안을 5개로 구성하여 학습지와 함께 제시했다. 문학 교육의 궁극적 목표가 문학적 지각 내지 감성을 갖춘 독자를 기르는 데 있다면, 문학을 낳는 매개인 언어를 고찰하는 일은, 그 목표를 이루는 데 있어 필수적으로 요구되는 과정이다. 우리말 언어구조에 내재한 고유한 특질에 주목해 보는 일은 우리말과 우리 문학에 보다 가깝게 다가가는 일에 다름 아니며, 이런 과정을 '문학의 수용 및 창작' 교수-학습 과정에서 내면화할 때, 교사와 학습자는 보다 바람직한 문학 주체로 한 걸음 더 나아갈 수 있을 것이다.

Poets create rhythm in accordance with the inner structure and features of their native tongue. Sometimes they break the linguistic rules of their language to create unique rhythm in consideration of the texts. As poetry is the best literary genre to show the unique characteristics of language, the purpose of this study was to delve into the impact of the linguistic properties of the Korean language on the rhythm of poetry, and to explore rhythm teaching methods in conjunction with the relationship between the linguistic structure and rhythm of the language. Existing studies have merely dealt with Korean poetry rhythm without getting an extensive grip on the linguistic structure of the language. To turn around the situation, this study classified the characteristics of rhythm according to the hierarchical linguistic structure of Korean and even tried to cover the subjective rhythmical features of individual readers. In the final chapter, lesson plans were mapped out by incorporating 'literature' and 'the knowledge of the Korean language' in language arts to apply the findings of this study to rhythm education in a diverse manner. The ultimate goal of literary education could be said to nurture readers who have an eye for literature, looking into language that is a medium of literature is mandatory for the achievement of the goal. Paying attention to the unique properties of the linguistic structure of Korean is a step forward toward the language and Korean literature. Teachers and learners will be able to take the initiative in literature when they receive and create literature by focusing on the unique features of the linguistic structure of Korean.
