한국과 미국의 초등학교 수학교과서 비교 연구

Abstract

지금까지 한국과 미국의 수학교과서 중 확률과 통계 영역을 중심으로 분석해 보았다. 이상의 분석과 논의를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 한국교과서에서는 확률 및 통계에 관련된 개념들에 대한 언급이 그 개념을 설명하는 단원으로 그치며 기본 및 보충문제, 심화문제를 제공하여 개념 습득을 확인하지만, 미국 교과서에는 하나의 개념이 여러 학년과 여러 단원들에 걸쳐 반복적으로 나오므로 개념 습득의 추가 기회가 많다. 둘째, 미국 교과서에는 학생들이 속한 사회 전반적인 문제에 관한 자료를 다양한 형태로 제공하고, 수학적인 내용과 원리가 다른 과목이나 일상생활과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있어 우리의 일상생활이 수학과 자연스럽게 만나고 있음을 학생들이 느낄 수 있도록 유도하고 있으나, 한국은 현실감이나 흥미도가 다소 부족하더라도 답이 간단히 나올 수 있는 자료와 문제들로 구성되어 있다. 셋째, 한국과 미국 교과서의 그래프 그리는 방법을 지도하는 방식에는 비율그래프 외에는 큰 차이점이 없다. 그러나 미국 교과서에는 과학, 음악, 미술, 사회 등과 관련된 데이터 자료를 다양하게 제시하였고, 여러 가지 그래프를 다양하게 활용하는 상황도 제공하였다.

In the 21th century knowledge-based society, probability and statistics are used in many areas, such as politics, economics, social science and so on. The purpose of this study was to investigate and present the better direction that Korean mathematics textbook had to pursue, by reviewing of the previous literatures in other countries, focusing on the area of probability statistics section. This research was mainly based on comparative analysis in Korean and American mathematics textbooks, on the various following aspects: curriculum, established goals, lesson organization, teaching methods, contents, terminology etc. The results of the research are as follow. First, in the Korean mathematics curriculum, main concepts in the probability and statistics section are taught in a single unit basis, providing problem-solving processes in basic, supplementary and advanced level. On the other hand, in American mathematics textbooks, the same concepts are instructed repeatedly in many lessons across multiple grades, so that students are able to have more opportunities to understand and internalize the concepts. Secondly, American textbooks describe the principles and the concepts in various forms and contents closely related to everyday life and other subjects so students can be motivated to get ahold of mathematics in their daily life. On the other side, in Korean text books, the contents lack a focus on practicality, even if the answer can be simply composed of the materials. Thirdly, not a big difference has been found in the lessons teaching a way to draw the graph between Korean and American textbooks. However, American textbooks offer a variety of data associated with science, music, art, social studies and so on. Moreover, they includes diverse situations in order to make full use of various types of graph.
