- Abstract
- In most Korean WDM networks presently ISP uses, transmission delay related to transmission distance is the main cause of service quality degradation in most 100Mbps internet networks.
In this thesis, the effect of this transmission delay on the 100Mbps internet networks under the TCP/IP structure is studied. Experimental results of download speeds measured in various environments are presented.
It is shown that the quality of service is dramatically deteriorated over RTT(Round Trip Time) 5ms. Alternative routing, minimization of electric device, decentralizing of traffic destination and revitalization of local IX (Internet eXchange) in WDM networks are proposed.
The quality of service degradation associated with the transmission delay is found and the above techniques are useful to minimize its effect. However, a thorough investigation and subsequent analysis are necessary together with other alternative methods. These works constitute a future study.
