- Abstract
- The national oceanographic research institute is currently performing continuous tidal observation over the 32 tidal stations of the east, south and west. It provides the tidal informations on the internet. And the informations are provided with the navigation of shipping, operation, coastal development project, etc by yearly tidal table.
Recently, global warming gas caused an increase in a direct and indirect problems like the rising sea level, seawater overflowing and a coastal flooding. The loss and damage of the republic of korea are increasing because of the rising sea level. As a result, It is necessary to establish the foundation of the monitoring of the sea level changes for the flooding prevention. Recently, the extent of application of tidal observation data is extended to safety navigation of shipping, preservation of the ocean environment, prevention of coastal disasters and leisure activities. It is need to build up various service system for the user's requirements. Therefore, it is urgent for us to expand the observational lists and sites.
As for sounding, It is difficult to know the precise depth of water without consideration of the sea level changes. We had performed the sounding with the observed value for height of the tide which is provided with National Oceanographic Research Institute. However, The data, even if, is possible to be applied to sounding in coastal zone, there is no the value for height of the tide which is standard in the ocean. Moreover, there were problems with expensive equipments, shortage of specialists, lack of comprehension about GPS, expenses, time, etc. Especially, We didn't make researches because It is hard to consider dynamic behavior characteristic using the observed value by GPS.
Therefore, A new measurement technique is developed using GPS equipped ship to make up for the spatial-temporal and economical problems by this study. We compared the data using GPS with the value for height of the tide. And we corrected the errors using the more accurate data that we studied. In addition to we studied that the corrected value had statistical significance and similarity compared with the observed value using GPS. The following studies also performed : When the observed value of tide by a tide observatory and by using GPS are applied to sounding ; How the values of the water depth are being, and if the values are similar, whether the observed value of tide using GPS is valid or not.
