The Relationship between Science Achievements and Science Related Attitude of Middle School Students
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine relationship between science achievements and science related attitude of middle school students.
The questions for this study were as follows;
1. Are there any significant differences on the science achievements according to sex of the middle school students? And are there any significant differences on the science related attitude(attitude toward science, attitude of science classes, scientific attitude) according to sex of middle school students?
2. Are there significant correlation between the science achievements and science related attitude of middle school students? And how much does the science related attitude predict the science achievements of middle school students?
This study ascertained data from 685 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade middle school students and the questionnaire with 32 items were composed of 3 areas- attitude toward science, attitude toward science classes, scientific attitude-. SPSS 12.0 for windows was applied for the analysis by the t-test, Pearson's correlation, Discriminant analysis.
The results of this study were as follows;
First, there was no significant difference in the science achievements according to sex. There was significant difference in the science related attitude according to sex that male students showed more interest of science related attitude than female students.
Second, there was significant relationship between the science achievements and the science related attitude, and the science related attitude was the important variable to predict the high and low achievement group.
