THE DIFFERNCE OF CAREER DECISION MAKING STYLE BY GENDER ROLE IDENTITY OF MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
Abstract
The period of middle school students is very important to make gender role identity and career preparation. Therefore there is a need to investigate the effects of gender role identity on the career decision making of middle school students. The purpose of this study was to investigate how to understand adolescence and to obtain the basic data for educational guidance and career decision making.
To accomplish this purpose, the following questions had to be answerd.
1. Which relation is there between gender role identity by sex and career decision making style among middle school students?
2. Which relation is there between gender role identity by grade and career decision making style among middle school students?
The result of the study, the effects of gender role identity of middle school students was showed undifferentiated but rational career decision making style. Especially male students were more undifferentiated , female students were more androgyny. The female students had more androgyny gender role identity and they showed high self-consciousness. Also the study showed that female students were more rational and intrutive in decision making more than male students.
Female students prefered the rational decision making style in gender role identity style except the characteristic of masculinity. Male students prefered the rational decision making style in gender role identity style except the characteristic of femininity.
The study showed that the androgyny style was rational regardless of sex and grade. Therefore the most ideal gender role identity was the androgyny type. But both the feminity gender role identity and the undifferentiated gender role identity had dependent style. This is the big problem to improve and it requires further research and educational guidance.
As grade goes up, it was clear that the undifferentiated style was integrated into the androgyny style, and the rate of rational style was high. Therefore the career maturity of middle school students will be improved pertinent career guidance and consultation education are accomplished.
An adolescent period need the androgyny character to plan their future and also have rational career decision making ability.
From this study was very clear that it would be proffered the opportunity of growing and development to the students by getting the at most out of systematic consultation and educational programs.
