A Study on Effects of Indoor Temperature Change on Comfortable Sleep during Mid-sleep in Summer
Abstract
People feel cold because of using low setting temperature of air conditioner during sleeping in summer. And, people have economical stress about air conditioner use. People require suitable method to use air conditioner. Research was analyzed for sleep state and skin temperature by temperature fluctuation of air conditioner during mid-sleep in summer. It is purpose that the study finds suitable thermal comfort condition in summer sweltering night sleep state.
Eight subjects who have similar life cycle and sleep patterns were participated for the sleep experiment. They were healthy, and had regular sleep with consistent bed and wake up time. It was checked whether they had a good sleep before the night of experiment. Experiments were performed in an environmental chamber of 3.7×4.6×2.7m size. EEGs were obtained from C3-A2 and C4-A1 electrode sites. Sleep stages were classified, then TST, SWS latency and SWS/TST were calculated for the evaluation for sleep efficiencies on thermal conditions.
As results, MST and sleep efficiency was found out high comfort area distribution in temperature fluctuation than 28℃ fixed temperature. At temperature fluctuation, body movement was significantly lower than of other thermal conditions. So, This study could confirm an effectiveness about temperature change of air conditioner for agreeableness sleep. And temperature change algorism is able to utilize to thermal environment condition during sleeping in summer.
