Modern Women’s Mimicking Desire and their ‘Wannabe Lists’ suggested by the Consuming Society
Abstract
The starting point of human's consuming behavior is the realization of individual desires. The desire to be acknowledged is surely a personal matter, but it is other people that take the initiative in enabling the desire to be satisfied. Personal relations are expressed as social relations between classes through products. Women's lives are closely related to consumption. Modern women's image creation through consumption is connected to their identity. Ultimately, the creation is used as a means of self-realization. These women want to satisfy their psychological desires through image consumption.
In this research we look into contemporary females' desires to represent themselves through the imitation of others. Most of these desires are expressed as consumption; hence, contemporary females should acknowledge that the yardstick for judgment is outside themselves. We reproduce the yardstick in the form of photographs embodying three-dimensional images on the two-dimensional paper. The advertizing skills using three dimensional images induces the products more to become objects of desires unavoidable to the females in the potential consuming society than that with planar photographs. The advertisement of the contemporary consumption society is in the center of confusion of physical images. The body itself disappears in the distribution of this preference. Instead, the only idealized body remains as virtual reality. The consumption through the reality is not the individual's psychological matter but the reflection of economical and ideological consciousness of our society.
