The results of this study are as follows;
1) Check is a lattice pattern of a fixed size, and a geometrical shape that vertical line and horizontal line cross at a right angle. Check can be constituted variously by giving variety to design such as distance of lines, various light colors in contradistinction to deep colors, and materials,
2) So there is a great variety of kinds. Check pattern mostly used in present fashion a square pattern of block check, harlequin check that block check is listed in a diamond shape, tartan check that is a Scotch traditional lattice pattern, a small lattice pattern of gingham check, diagonal herringbone check, star-shaped hound tooth check, basket check, stitched check, tetragonal glass window-shaped windowpane check, gradation check whose lines become thin or fade out, over check that other check patterns are arranged on check pattern, alternate check that two kinds of check are listed by turns, glen check mixing small pattern and big pattern, argyle check thin and inclined lattice pattern is overlapped on diamond-shaped check, shepherd check that a square check and diagonal check are listed of a fixed size and distance, gun club check that is transformation of shepherd check, Madras check well used in cotton with natural dyes, and tattersall check that red and black are listed by turns on white or brown paper.

In 1940s, long nail was the vogue, and a method that red is fully painted was introduced. Helen Girly started systematic education to train nail artists in 1956. Spray polish desiccant and nail wrap strengthening torn or cracked nail appeared, and artificial nail with acrylic polymer appeared, so was a hit in 1960s. IBD in U.S.A. launched glue and adhesive artificial nail in 1973, and Orly launched liquid fiber wrap and ridge filler in 1975. Essie, OPI, and Star launched nail accessories in 1981, and in this country, Griffith Nail Shop, the first nail shop, was opened in 1988. NIA was established in 1992. In 1994, light cured gel system appeared in Germany, and nail technician license system was adopted in New York City. Meanwhile, in this country, Mavala of Europe was introduced, and nail products of Kiss and Creative in U.S.A. were imported in 1996. In 1997, Nakasone Sachigo Japan founded branch school in this country, Korean Nail Association was established in October. In 1998, Korean Nail Association conducted a private qualifying examination, and exclusive nail shops were opened in earnest.
5) Mostly used expressive technique of nail art is dangles, decal, design sculpture, rhine stone, marbling, striping tape, airbrush, embossing, Fork art, pro-trans, 3D art, hand painting. dangle is to put a hole through the free edge of a nail to add a ring-shaped accessory. It is relatively safer to perform this treatment on artificial nails than natural nails. decal is a short for decalcomanic. They come in as completed images on stickers, and are used on colored nails. design sculpture is to add patterns after extending nails using acrylic power or UV gels. The nails are then covered with clear acrylic powders or clear UV gels. rhine stone refers to artificial diamonds. Rhinestones come in geographic or flower shapes or in charms. This technique is sometimes mixed with flat techniques such as hand painting or air brushing, or with three dimensional techniques such as embossing art. Its characteristic is to express flat designs more splendidly with semi-three-dimensional looks. marbling is to express marbling · flower · leaf · butterfly patterns using marbling tools or fine brushes after drawing lines/circles with two or more polishes or color UV gels. Its characteristic is that the results do not appear as intended or realistically but rather in abstract forms away from natural shapes. striping tape is a technique to place thin self-adhesive tapes on nails. airbrush is a technique to design nail art works using pressed air and paints. It is mostly used in illustrations or detailed depictions. Airbrush is to spray paints on nails in mist forms using compressors and airbrush guns that spray out air. embossing art is a technique that expresses design in three dimensions. Fork art is a technique that draws patterns such as flower and fruit to look deep, and pro-trans is a technique that attaches paper that picture or image is printed to nail. 3D art is to create three-dimensional sculptures using acrylic powders and liquids. It can create precisional shapes. hand painting is to directly draw animal · plant · portrait · realistic · abstract · geographic patterns on colored and dried nails. It can show artistic results by using fine lines, unique patterns and various colors.
6) Check pattern of nail art from 2011 S/S to 2013 S/S is total 257 patterns, and there are 30 argyle, 13 over, 9 harlequin, 6 window-pane, 6 gradation, 5 stitched, 5 block, 3 hound tooth, 3 gingham, 2 tartan, 1 madras, 1 tattersall check patterns. In addition, shepherd, alternative, basket, gun club, glen, and herringbone check patterns well used in fashion are never used. And from 2011/12 F/W to 2013/14 F/W is total 155 pattern, and there are 52 argyle, 17 window-pane, 17 tartan, 12 over, 12 stitched, 11 hound tooth, 11 harlequin, 6 block, 5 gingham, 3 shepherd, 3 madras, 2 tattersall, 1 gradation check patterns. In addition, alternative, basket, gun club, glen, and herringbone check patterns well used in fashion are never used. Through this result, in nail art, the relatively simple patterns such as a vertical pattern, a horizontal pattern, and cross or overlap diagonal line are used more than elaborate and complex check patterns of a fibrous tissue from a weaving process.
7) Colors of check pattern in nail art are from 2011 S/S to 2013 S/S in the order of 47 R-affiliated colors, 44 N-affiliated colors, 25 Y-affiliated colors, 23 YR-affiliated colors, 21 B-affiliated colors, 18 RP-affiliated colors, 17 PB-affiliated colors, 11 P-affiliated colors, 10 G-affiliated colors, 8 GY-affiliated colors, and 6 BG-affiliated colors. This is because popular colors of nail art during the past three years feed into check pattern. And from 2011/12 F/W to 2013/14 F/W in the order of 200 N-affiliated colors, 85 R-affiliated colors, 31 RP-affiliated colors, 23 Y-affiliated colors, 20 B-affiliated colors, 17 YR-affiliated colors, 12 P-affiliated colors, 11 GY-affiliated colors, 8 G-affiliated colors, 6 PB-affiliated colors, and 4 BG-affiliated colors. This is because popular colors of nail art during the past three years feed into check pattern. In addition, N-affiliated color and R-affiliated color are remarkably well-used, because of the effects of argyle, tartan, windowpane, harlequin, stitched, over, and hound tooth check patterns used the most during the past three years. Especially, most tartan, harlequin, over, and hound tooth check patterns use local colors such as R-affiliated colors and N-affiliated colors as it is, and argyle, windowpane, stitched, and over check patterns use well by arranging N-affiliated colors and R-affiliated colors.
8) Techniques of check pattern in nail art 2011 S/S to 2013 S/S are 73 hand-painting techniques, 7 decals techniques, and 1 striping tape techniques. And from 2011/12 F/W to 2013/14 F/W are 132 hand-painting techniques, 22 decals techniques, and 1 striping tape techniques. The most used expressive technique is hand painting to express check pattern, because new products related to UV gel are well launched. These materials can draw fine line that is hard to express by existing polish easily and simply, and not only have set quickly hard, so procedure time is very short, so it is compatible to draw check pattern personally, but also it is well covered, so check pattern is more clearly expressed. In addition, nail arts printed in Nail–holic are the works of nail artists and nail instructors, because nail experts possess not only skilled technique but also artistic sensitivity, so can express fine line, distinctive pattern, and color of check pattern artfully.
