The Effect of Belly Dance on Health-related Fitness and Body Composition in middle-aged Wemen.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of bellly dance on health-related fitness and body composition in middle-aged wemen.
For this purpose, twenty middle-aged wemen in B city were recruited and they were divided into exercise group(n=10) and control group(n=10). Bellly dance was applied (Week 1-4) RPE 11-12 50 minutes, (Week 5-8) RPE 13-14 55 minutes, (Week 9-12) RPE 13-14 60 minutes for 3 days a week in 12 weeks.
All date were analyzed by two-way repeated with ANOVA for comparison between groups and interaction and the comparison for with-group change was paired t-test of SPSS package 17.0 program and significant level was set to .05. The results of this study were as follows:

1. Health-related fitness
1) Weight was decreased significantly(p<.01) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.01).
2) Muscular strength was increased significantly(p<.001) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.001).
3) Muscular endurance was increased significantly(p<.001) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.001).
4) Flexibility was increased significantly(p<.001) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.001).
5) Waist measurement was decreased significantly(p<.001) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.001).

2. Body Composition
1) Quantity of lean mass was not significantly difference after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It wasn't any significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times.
2) Quantity of body fat was decreased significantly(p<.01) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.01).
3) Quantity of body fat % was decreased significantly(p<.01) after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It was significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times(p<.01).
4) Lean body mass was not significantly difference after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It wasn't any significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times.
5) Quantity of abdominal fat %was not significantly difference after the combined exercise, there was not significantly difference from the control group.
It wasn't any significantly different in terms of interaction effect by groups and times.
