- The Ways to Enhance Utilization of the FTA
for Companies in Busan

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to enhance the utilization of the free trade agreements for Busan companies based on any difficulties faced by Busan companies. The research is not only to grasp difficulties in utilizing FTA according to surveys on people in charge of the FTA-related work and the CEO of the companies in Busan but to seek for ways for supporting Busan companies based on the analysis of the result of difficulties.
The details of the research are summarized as follows:
Starting the Korean-Chile FTA, Korea has concluded successful FTA negotiations with various countries ranging from the Korea-EU FTA to the Korea-U.S FTA. Recently, Korea has pulled the nation into the ranks of advanced countries by agreeing on the Korea- China FTA negotiation. In particular, Busan has high effects in relation to the FTA due to the geographical and industrial structural impact. For these reasons, many similar institutions are implementing businesses to utilize the FTA for Busan companies.
In recent Busan economy, local companies in Busan are having difficulties in managing due to the fact that prolonged periods of a slump in the major industries in Busan such as marine equipment and steel caused by European economic downturn. There are sufficient conditions for Busan companies to strengthen competitive power through utilization of the FTA as they have many exporting products such as marine equipment, automobile parts and steel which take dominant position of the lists exporting to the large economic bloc like the EU and the United States compared to others items in Busan.
The surveys have been conducted by people in charge of the FTA-related work and the CEO of the companies who took part in FTA training courses in Busan FTA Business Center and the same surveys are also carried out by 130 companies in Busan. According to the result of the surveys, companies in Busan are struggling with securing basis of documents, procedures of the FTA utilization and the shortage of the FTA experts in the course of their businesses through the FTA. Most of these difficulties are the fundamental problems which only medium companies suffer from. To solve aforementioned issues, comprehensive steps should be taken to address such difficulties.
