There is worldwide concernregarding China’s reactiontonuclear testsheld by North Korea. Afterthe first and the second nuclear test,China remained stagnant by taking a passive diplomatic stance. However,after the third test,China adopted a tough political policyagainst North Korea.This thesisanalyzes the changes in China’s diplomatic policiesas a result ofNorth Korea’s three nuclear tests. First, the official statements onNorth Korea’s nuclear tests that the China Foreign Affairs Ministry has issued. Second, China’s participation in the United Nations Security Council (UN) sanctions against North Korea. Third, China’s direct sanctions against the DPRK. Fourth, Chinese public opinions on the DPRK. Last, the comments on the China’s diplomatic policies against DPRK.Last but notleast, China’s prospectiveattitude towardNorth Korea’s nuclear issues. Based on the analysis, this thesis explains the changes in China’spoliciesagainst DPRK and the factors that the Chinese government hastaken into consideration onthisissue.
