Abstract

With the development of society, environmental issue has become to be one of the most significant issues attracting highly social attention. In lighting field, the design process of lighting product especially in materials' use, production, recycling, and re-use parts have become an important topic. Now, lighting companies not only care about the environment and economy, but also have begun to focus on sociality. However, the sustainable lightings on sale only apply one or two sustainable elements such as energy-saving and use of eco materials, which are very one-sided. The biggest problem is that sustainability has not been systematically applied in the process of lamp manufacturing, transportation, use, and recycling. In this study, the purpose was to propose a practical, sustainable lighting design strategy for lighting designers. In order to research the lamp sustainable strategy, 20 related articles and lots of lamps instances that won three major industrial design awards were analyzed. At last, 88 sustainable design elements were obtained. The obtained strategy for sustainable lighting design in this study has the following characteristics. Sustainable elements of the various groups in SLD strategic model for example, sociality, economy, environment, re-utilization, health, efficiency, and other factors, can combine with concepts of lighting design and diversified design originalities and ideas can be attained. Sustainable elements can also combined with the formative, rationality, economy, productivity, usability, modularity, satisfaction and other factors of lights when the lamps are developed and designed. By fusing elements between the sustainable and lighting design, full consideration can be taken on sustainable design throughout lighting developing process.
