Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find an effective English teaching methods for children to improve their interest, understanding ability and self-confidence through English picture books.
For carrying out this study, in the first chapter, I mentioned the importance of English education through English picture books. In the second chapter, I examined some theories of education based on language development and teaching methods. In the third chapter, I studied ways of selecting good English picture books for children and introduced the book I used. Also, I introduced teaching methods which include a procedures of pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading and presented the actual teaching procedures on the basis of gathered materials that may arouse interest in English.
In conclusion, English picture books are very worthy and proper material because they help children understand the story through pictures and encourage them to get more curiosity on English. They provide children with the linguistic and cultural benefits to get simultaneous acquisition of the four language skills, and enable teachers to communicate with children through pictures, culture, custom and vocabularies. They also motivate children to take part in various activities and learn from friends in the group.
