- Abstract
- This study was conducted with the purpose of presenting a way to reduce discomfort glare for indoor luminous environment of accommodation space in Ship. The scope of the study was limited to three major influencing factors that directly affect formation of discomfort glare.
The findings of the study carried out with such a purpose are as follows:
(1) In order to carry out a comparative evaluation of ship and ground, the effect of discomfort glare depending on the floor height was explored. The UGR (Unified Glare Rating) value increased as the floor height decreased. The UGR value at the 2 m floor height of general cabin did not conform to the standard. As the floor height of general cabin is low, the effect of discomfort glare was high.
(2) In order to determine the effect of discomfort glare depending on the luminous intensity distribution, the UGR value of the luminous intensity distribution with a beam angle of (n : 1~2) depending on the floor height was evaluated. The result of the analysis showed that the UGR value can be reduced by changing the luminous intensity distribution from to was shown to be advantageous in improving the indoor luminous environment of a accommodation space in a ship as the luminous intensity distribution can reduce discomfort glare even at a low floor height.
(3) In order to determine the effect of discomfort glare depending on the reflectivity of the space, the UGR values were evaluated by applying the minimum to maximum recommended reflecitivities of ceiling, walls and floor. When the reflectivity of ceiling, walls and floor was raised, discomfort glare decreased as a whole. Discomfort glare can be reduced by increasing the reflectivity of ceiling, walls and floor, and applying it together with luminous intensity distribution can be a way to further reduce discomfort glare.
(4) The three results were put together to present a section where an appropriate area could be selected. The light environment can be improved if the floor height, luminous intensity distribution and reflectivity of the space are adjusted by applying an appropriate range where the desired UGR section can be selected and adjusted depending on the situation.
If indoor luminous environment is designed considering the factors which can reduce discomfort glare, a change in a positive direction can be ultimately created for the users. The significance of this study is in establishing the direction of the study on improvement of light environment considering sailors, the human resources of ships. This data will be utilized as the basic data for improvement of indoor luminous environment on ship in the ship-related fields.
