- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out some values in processing language. This research is focused on aging that was assumed to influence cognitive capability and language processing. The experiment was composed of two different groups in age. One group consisted of 20 members of 15~16 years old in Korean age, the other consisted of 20 members of 30~45 years old in Korean age. Both groups are the same level in English. E-prime 2.0 was used to gather all this experimental data.
To analyze the ability of language processing of both groups, there were three parts of sentence types: phonetic system by preposition transposition, semantic system by negative interrogation, and syntactic system by garden path.
The empirical results showed that age-related value operated on language processing. It measured the meaningful point(p≦0.05) with critical words in all three parts and with whole sentence in two parts, phonetic, semantic system. The data guided that aging accelerated phonetic, semantic system delay comparing with syntactic system. These results support that age-related values do not operate equally on language processing.
