- Abstract
- A series of Sr3La2(1-x)(BO3)4:xEu3+ (0.01≤x≤1.00) nanocrystalline phosphors was prepared by a novel technique which is a slight variation of solution combustion synthesis. The synthesis is based on the exothermic reaction between the fuel (urea) and oxidizer (ammonium nitrate). The XRD analysis confirmed the formation of the solid solution between Sr3La2(BO3)4 and Sr3Eu2(BO3)4. The typical structure diffraction peaks of different Eu content Sr3La2(BO3)4 reveal a systematic shift to high diffraction angle. The morphology was determined with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). It was found that the size of nanocrystallites were around 50-60 nm. The excitation, emission spectra and decay curves are reported. The photoluminescence spectra showed that the samples had intense and prevailing red emission at 612 nm belonging to the 5D0→7F2 electric dipole transition. The Eu concentration plays a significantly affect to the luminescence properties. In addition, the thermal stability of phosphor was also investigated, the results showed the emission intensity of Eu3+-activated phosphors decreased with increased temperature and the emission wavelengths showed no shift with increased temperature. It is indicated that this kind of phosphors can be served as a potential red-emitting phosphor for W-LEDs.
