코퍼스 목적어 연어 분석을 통한 동사 Cut의 의미 범주

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to categorize the various meanings of verb 'cut' into three meaning areas by analyzing the objective noun collocations through COCA. This study also aims to give simple meaning categorizations to understand verb 'cut' easily when reading and writing that verb in the context. This study attempts to compare English objective noun collocations with the definition of Korean expression equivalent to the collocations in Korean dictionary to know the correlation between English object and definition of Korean expression. This study suggests three meaning categorizations of verb 'cut' which are 'jalum(cut)', 'julim(reduce)' and 'jungdan(stop)'. Under those categorizations, there are various Korean expressions. It can be summarized as follow : First, two Korean expressions are included in 'julim' categorization. They are 'julida' and 'kkakda'. Second, three Korean expressions such as 'jaluda', 'beda' and 'bbemukda' are shown in 'jalum' categorization. Third, there are four Korean expressions in 'jungdan' categorization including 'ggunda', 'jungdanhada', 'makda' and 'gguda'. To study verb 'cut', it is useful to know three categorizations in this study because each categorization includes every aspect of feature in Korean expressions. This result could help students understand the verb 'cut' as effective as possible.
