This study investigates English polite expressions. It is very important for Korean to know polite expressions. Politeness is expressed by Koreans having many systems such as family, friends, and social power. However when English learners have a conversation with native speakers, learners often make mistakes. While Korean think English has few polite expressions, there are many ways to express politeness in English. That is why learners are talking with native speakers, they can't use them properly. The purpose of this study is searching for what kinds of English polite expressions are treated in the EBS English conversation books which are EBS Easy English, and Power English. After researching about previous theories studied by Lakeoff, Fraser, Grice, Leech and Brown & Levinson, this study finds devices of English politeness expressions concerning auxiliary verb, progressive, past progressive and hedge. The most remarkable device is auxiliary verb such as Can, Could, Would like. The books, EBS Easy English and Power English, present various expressions which can help learners communicate politely. Through this, learners are given chances to improve their communicative skills and acquire polite expressions. Nevertheless it's very hard to find out the politeness expressions without appropriate instruction in the book. It is expected that English books treat divers and specific politeness, and then English learners in Korea are accustomed to them in the future.
