The Effect of Nuri Curriculum Based Montessori Program on Young Children`s Problem Behaviors

ABSTRACT This study considers Nuri curriculum and Montessori as a complementary relation in which a Nuri curriculum based Montessori program is developed and applied in field scenes to have the purpose of investigating which influence it has on young children's problem behaviors. For this, a Nuri curriculum based Montessori program was developed and input into field scenes to check the degree of young children's internalized problem behaviors and externalized problem behaviors. The subjects of this study were 22 young children of 5 years old at a Montessori program operating daycare center located in U metropolitan city and 18 young children of 5 years old at a daycare center that only operates Nuri curriculum. A total of 40 subjects were selected. Questionnaires were used in pre, post tests to find the average and standard deviation of the test group and comparative group through independent sampling t-test. As result of the study, the comparative group after applying the program development in this research showed no difference, but the experimental group showed statistically significant difference in reducing of young children's internalized problem behaviors and externalized problem behaviors. This result shows that the input of the developed program was effective in reducing young children's internalized problem behaviors and externalized problem behaviors. This result shows that it can be expected as an appropriate alternative to parents who depend on the media without asking for help on child rearing in nuclear family forms and also to children who receive mental anxiety and defect under parents who are excessively biased on the media. The Montessori program reflects the society of social, cultural, environmental characteristics which children are associated and appropriate basic life habits are made to be exercised in that condition. Therefore, it is judged that the Montessori program that properly reflects the Nuri curriculum can make children to live as normal children in groups Applying the Montessori program substantially implies that the children’s problem behaviors in education organizations and in homes can be reduced.
