Abstract

The elevator is an essential part of the transportation means for life in modern society becoming a means for the movement including vertical mobility in skyscrapers or horizontal movement in the multi-purposes facilities as well as for the convenience of transportation vulnerable citizens including the disabled or elderly. After the 1990s, the number of newly installed elevators have increased in the establishment of large scale public houses with an increase of means of transportation from rapid growth of economy.

As a device that most of the unknown people use, the elevator is always exposed to the risk of accident Thus, safety accident has been currently in an increasing trend as years passed by. Most of the elevator accidents occur in the escalator (including moving walkway). It shows that most of the users regard it as a means for moving rapidly or swiftly. It seems to be needed to convert recognition that the usage of the escalator shall be a means for easier and more convenient movement including the movement between floors where it is difficult to move up or down. This study has investigated the current situations on users at multi-purpose shopping spaces, sub way, and airport through the analysis on each of the accident types that were turned out to be from faults of users based on 10-years of statistical data from 2005 to 2014 on the escalator (including moving walkway) where accidents occur mostly among the elevators.
