Synthesis of Silicone-phosphate Flame Retardant and Flame Retardant Properties for Cotton Fiber
Abstract
In this study, silicone-phosphate flame retardants for cotton fiber treatment were synthesized in different molar concentrations of DAP and APTES: 0 ∼ 0.454 mol and 0 ∼ 0.271 mol, respectively. Synthesis was confirmed by FT-IR measurements. TGA analysis showed that P1S0 (not contain APTES) and P0S1 (not contain DAP) had 20 % and 34 % of final residue at 800 oC, respectively. However, the flame retardant P1S1 (contain both APTES and DAP) exhibited 38 % of final residue at 800 oC. These results indicated that the thermal stability of P1S1 was higher than P1S0 and P0S1. FTIR-ATR, SEM, and EDX analysis have been used to investigate the surface characteristic of the cotton fiber treated with silicone-phosphate flame retardant (P1S1). The flame-retardant test of the cotton fiber treated with P1S1 was performed by KS K 0585 (The method for flammability of textile). The result was carbonized length of 4.6 cm, while after-flame time and after-glow time were 0 s and 0 s, respectively. These results meet the type approval criteria by National Emergency Management Agency (Article No. 2013-26).
