한반도 서남부에 분포하는 변성퇴적암류의 저어콘 연대와 Hf 동위원소 특성 및 그 지구조적 의미
- Abstract
- 한반도 서남부 지역에는 호남전단대를 따라 변성퇴적암류가 분포하고 있으며, 암상에 따라 변성사질암과 변성이질암 및 규질암으로 분류된다. 변성퇴적암류의 퇴적시기 규명과 기원물질 연구를 위해 SHRIMP U-Pb 연대측정과 LA-MC-ICPMS를 이용한 Hf 동위원소 조성 분석을 실시하였다.
변성사질암에서 구해진 연령은 대부분이 고원생대(약 1.87Ma)이고, 가장 젊은 연령은 약 267-246Ma로 퇴적시기는 후기 페름기 내지 전기 트라이아스기이다. 따라서, 변성사질암은 호남탄전의 페름기 천운산층과 삼척탄전의 고한층- 동고층 혹은 녹암층에 대비되는 상부고생대 최상부층이다. 변성이질암에서 분리한 저어콘은 크게 4개(2.5Ga, 1.87Ga, 390Ma, 322Ma)의 연령군을 보인다. 가장 젊은 평균연령은 약 322 Ma로 퇴적시기는 전기 석탄기 내지 그 이후이며, 호남탄전의 중기 내지 후기 석탄기 오음리층과 태백산분지 삼척탄전의 만항층에 대비된다. 규질암에서는 약 2500Ma와 1880Ma의 집중연령을 보이고, 이보다 젊은 연령은 확인되지 않으며, 약 190-188Ma에 열수변질을 받은 것으로 해석된다.
영암-강진 지역 변성퇴적암류에 대한 Hf 동위원소 조성 분석 결과, 시생누대-고원생대 저어콘은 넓은 범위의 εHf 초기치 (-19.4~+7.1)를 가져 초생 마그마와 지각물질 기원 마그마의 특징을 모두 보여준다. 캠브리아기(540-500Ma) 저어콘은 양의 εHf 초기치(+5.8~+8.4)를 보여 뚜렷한 초생 마그마 기원의 특징을 나타내며, 트라이아스기-데본기 저어콘은 비교적 낮은 εHf 초기치(-18.5~-0.1)를 보여, 지각물질 기원의 특징을 보인다. 고원생대(1.88-1.87Ga)와 캠브리아기 저어콘의 상대적으로 높은 양의 εHf 초기치는 당시 상당량의 맨틀 물질이 유입되고, 한반도내에서 뚜렷한 지각성장이 있었음을 의미한다.
다른 지역 변성퇴적암류의 Hf 동위원소 값과 비교해보면, 영암-강진 지역은 문경지역 및 장성지역과는 다소 유사한 패턴을 보이지만, 옥천변성대와 경기육괴 태안층과는 차이가 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 연구지역은 장석이 드물고 석영의 함량이 매우 높은 퇴적물들이 우세하게 분포하고, 오래된 선캠브리아 대륙지각의 기원 물질이 우세하여 수동적 대륙연변부(passive continental margin)의 근원지로부터 유래하였음을 지시한다. 하지만, 퇴적시기와 유사한 화성활동이 검출되는 것을 고려하면 능동적 대륙연변부로부터의 거리가 아주 멀지는 않았음을 시사한다.
영암-강진 일대 변성퇴적암류의 고생대(약 540-510Ma, 465Ma, ~390Ma, 322Ma, 267-246Ma) 쇄설성 저어콘은 뚜렷한 화성활동을 지시하며, 이는 판노티아 (Pannotia) 초대륙의 결합 및 분열과 관련된 것으로, 판게아(Pangea) 초대륙 형성 후기 단계에서 퇴적된 것으로 해석된다.
