Abstract
Squid has an important source of protein and recent years are becoming one of the most important fisheries products. That is why many industries are processing squid diversely
and one of the most used products is the frozen one, processing of which generates solids and liquids waste. In this study we focused on the wastewater made from the cooked mantle muscle of the squid. This wastewater has high levels of CODcr and TN which damage any kind of body water or field used as a receptor of the treated or untreated wastewater that is dependent upon industries’ ethics. Thus, efficient treatment of wastewater is required, and furthermore its reutilization would give additional value. In this study we investigated the potential uses of the squid wastewater by microbial reaction. By the active biodegradation, removal percentage of CODCr of squid-mantlemuscle wastewater was 41.4%. The all culture supernatants were phytotoxin-free at the dilutions ratios of 50, 100, 250, 500, and 1000 folds. The radical scavenging activity of biodegraded wastewater was assayed on the every 12 hour broth. The highest value of DPPH scavenging activity was 75.3%. Amino acids are often mentioned as synergistic antioxidants such as serine, aspartic acid, asparagine, and alanine contribute to the scavenging of free radicals. We identified these amino acids through the thin layer chromatography.
