Abstract
The present study evaluated single and synergetic effects of dietary probiotics L. plantarum KCTC3928 and B. subtilis WB60 with prebiotics on Japanese eel, A. japonica. In the first experiment results indicated that L. plantarum KCTC3928 at 108 CFU/g diet could improve immune responses and intestinal condition. In the second experiment, the results demonstrated that dietary B. subtilis WB60 at 107 CFU/g diet could improve growth performance, immune responses, and intestinal condition. Thus, according to growth performance results, B. subtilis WB60 at 107 CFU/g diet could have more beneficial effects than L. plantarum KCTC3928 (108 CFU/g diet) for Japanese eel. In the third experiment, results showed that dietary supplementation of B. subtilis WB60 at minimum level of 0.5×107 CFU/g with mannan oligosaccharide (MOS) could improve growth performance, immune responses, and intestinal condition. In the fourth experiment, dietary B. subtilis WB60 or synbiotics (B. subtilis WB60+β-1,3 glucan) could have equal beneficial effects on growth performance, immune responses, and intestinal condition. Therefore, it could be concluded that synbiotic (B. subtilis WB60+MOS) had ideal combination as an antibiotic replacer in terms of growth performance, immune responses, and intestinal condition in Japanese eel.
