- Species composition and Seasonal variation of Fish assemblage in the coastal waters off Saemangeum, Korea
- Abstract
- To investigate seasonal and interannual variations in fish assemblage in the coastal waters off Saemangeum, fish samples were collected by trammel nets seasonally from March 2014 to November 2015.
During the study period, a total of 693 individuals and 171,087.4g of fishes beloing to 44 speciesand 25 families were collected. The dominant fish species were Konosirus punctatus, Liparis tanakae, Synechogobius hasta, Pennahia argentata, Cynoglossus joyneri and Johnius grypotus and together accounted for 67.1% of total number of individuals.
The fish assemblage in the coastal waters off Saemangeum varied significantly with season. The largest number of species was collected in September 2014, and the number of individuals ans biomass were the highest in September 2015 and November 2014, respectively. While the number of species and individuals were the lowest in November 2015 and biomass was the lowest in March 2015. The seasonal variation of fish assemblage corresponded with water temperature.
Thirty-one species were collected in both 2014 and 2015, and 18 species were consecutive collected in both years. The result of ANOSIM analysis showed fish assemblages were significantly different among season, but no significant differences were evident between two years and among the station.
The cluster analysis and nMDS ordination based on Bray-Curtis similarity revealed that the fish assemblages were divided into four groups visually. The result of SIMPER analyses revealed that fifteen fish species contributed >90% to the similarities in each season.
Among the dominant species, Pennahia argentata was mainly collected in Summer and Early autumn, contributing to the highest dissimilarity between warmer season (summer and early autumn) and colder season (spring and late autumn). Liparis tanakae was mainly contibuted to the dissimilarity between late autumn and other seasons. Konosirus punctatus was caught mostly in September, while Cynoglossus joyneri and Synechogobius hasta were sampled continuously in all seasons without any seasonality.
