A Study about Improvement of Hand Made Leisure Boat Manufacturing Process for Beginners
Abstract
With recent growth in interest in marine leisure, the leisure people is increased. In this trend, the central and local governments have been providing to support the marine leisure industry, but they are still unable to grow from the introduction period. Over the past 3 years, I have been involved in hand made leisure boat building class and have met people who have great interest in marine leisure. They felt some difficult to produce their boat in the class. So I have tried to increase access to the marine leisure industry by improving the construction method to solve these difficulties.
In this paper, I intend to propose a new method for the beginner with the goal of lower production difficulty, simple material, and light hull than the existing Strip and Stitch & Glue method. For this purpose, the frame and the longitudinal members which are the skeleton of the hull use wood and devise a method of covering the outer plate with plastic, and name it EPC method. In order to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the existed method, I made a part of the kayak model and the following conclusions were obtained. PERT and CPM were used to predict the efficiency and duration of the process by comparing the existed method with the improved one, and the EPC method shortened the time required for 8 to 10 hours compared to the others. And it is possible to manufacture easily and lightly by using the simply obtainable material and reducing the number of members. In addition, It reduced the material cost by 20 ~ 30% and the weight by half of the S&G kayak. Through this, EPC method showed the result satisfying the goal ahead and possibility as an easy access method for beginners.
