The chatter detection of end-milling force using stochastic variable
Abstract
The end-milling chatter behaviour is very complex and it is closely related to a non-periodic dynamic property and phenomenon of end-milling force, so it is very difficult to detect and diagnose this chatter phenomena clearly using cutting force. This paper presents a new method for detecting chatter in end-milling operation using different stochastic variable, based on the stochastic variables such as average, residual, variance and kurtosis. By acomparing the end-milling force histories with stochastic variables in the fundamental end-milling property, the chatter characteristics in time domain are well reviewed and compared with each other variables. These results of stochastic variables shows the reliability of chatter detection and prediction of malfunction property in end-milling and it can be applied to the decision of chatter criterion.
