- Abstract
- The energy-saving problem is becoming more and more conspicuous in the process of ship design with the price of international crude oil continually increasing. So it is important to study lines with low resistance by adopting fast and advanced means, and as the bulbous bow have certain potential in reducing the ship resistance.
This thesis uses KCS as the research object is preliminary research the effect of 3 bulbous bow control parameters (the height parameter, the length parameter and the width parameter) on the KCS resistance with the help of CFD method to calculate the total resistance. Research results show that in each control parameter, the change of the length parameter has the greatest influence on the ship`s resistance.
Then this thesis uses orthogonal experiment methods to carry on the comprehensive selection combining with the reform scheme of the bulb bow and gets the best solution which reduces total resistance of the KCS by 1.034%.
The resistance calculations use the ANSYS workbench, which is general commercial software. And it uses Rhino for geometry modeling, ICEM for meshing, and CFX for calculation.
This thesis has a beneficial try for the application of CFD method in ship design. Research results indicate that the prediction of KCS by CFD is credible. Especially, it gives important guidance on the design of bulb bow lines and provide necessary basis for energy-saving development of new ships.
