A Study on the Applications of Information and Communications Technologies to Fish Farm
Abstract
Korea is a maritime country surrounded by waters and many fishing activities occurred all over the coastal areas. In particular, Tongyeong on the south coast of the Korean peninsula, is first place for marine products which is also designated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and covers about 31 percent of marine farm in the edge of sea.
However, the amount of damage is enormous with approximately 30 billion won (recent 10 years) red tide damage, 1.5 billion won (2011) affected sea damage, and the 6.4 billion won (2016) damage caused by climate change.
But the farms are currently experiencing reduced production volume due to high density, environmental pollution, and climate change, as well as frequent theft accidents.
Moreover, the current aquaculture industry is difficult to rid itself of trivialness. Also, they rely on experiencerather than dataandscientific knowledge. In addition, workers in marine farm has problems with manpower supply because of it being considered as avoiding labor field where mostly elderly workers and migrant laborers follow. Currently, the safety awareness of the citizens has increased resulting as demand for safety foods. Therefore, we intend to learn about advanced marine farms that provides objective/scientific data procure using our country's technology, reduced expenditures through facility automation, high density culture and 24hour monitering service in order to reduce its scientific monitoring and operational expenditures.
