- Abstract
- The aging population growth, in the modern society that is blessed with the civilization of economic growth and advanced medical technology, has stand out to be a new problem in the society. Depending on how we handle the aged people, we can become a nation where we can utilize the future human resource of the aged population efficiently, or else it can cause an aged society without competition.
Therefore, the purpose of this research is to understand the actual condition of the lifelong education of the aged population that is being implemented in Busan and to find out about the satisfaction and the perception of the old people on senior lifelong education. Hence, the first step of the research plan, I would consider the advance research regarding the necessity of lifelong education, and then understand the actual attendance, of the senior lifelong education, as a demographical factor.
Second, I would understand the satisfaction of the students (old people) who are participating the program and provide them basic data for the program development. Third, is to find out the perception of the aged people about their social participation through the lifelong education. Through these, I want to provide basic data for the utilization of the human resource for the elders, which can recreate one’s old age worthy and valuable by exchanging words with many people nearby; and I want to pursue the development for the lifelong education program for the elders.
In order to understand the perception of the old people attending the society through the lifelong education program, the survey research has been conducted to the old people aged from 60 years old or above who are currently attending the lifelong education program in Busan city.
The data that has been collected is analyzed by statistic SPSS WIN 2.2 ver. Afterwards, through the result of the survey, technical statistics has been produced such as percentage and frequency. In order to find out the t- verification, one-way analysis of variance, the close relation with the old people’s perception and satisfaction, methods such as human relation was analyzed.
The result of the research of the old people’s perception that has joined the lifelong education program in Busan region is as it follows;
First, after understanding the result of the elders that have actually joined the program, which were mostly males, there were many elders that only graduated high school. Many of them signed up for two years program. After examining their motives of studying, mostly answered for the sake of their development and also interest in health education were many. What these elders want from the agency were educational activities from different subjects; also the opportunity that is needed were financially supported mostly by the lifelong education.
Second, after examining the satisfaction of the elders who are joining the program, most of them were satisfied. Learning new materials was one of the reasons. There was nonsatisfaction mostly due to lack of diversities of programs. The programs that they were mostly satisfied were art, music, and physical education. Statistically, males were more satisfied than females in both, and out of the age, there were most satisfactions in 60’s who were taking classes under two or three years. Also, elders who only graduated high school showed most satisfactions.
Third, the substantial factors of the elders joining the lifelong education program were frequent participation, satisfaction, and positive attitude. Meanwhile, elders joining the program regarding the relation of genders, females had more frequent participation, positive attitude, and high satisfaction, hence, these had higher rate of participation. The view of social participation according to academic career, people who were illiterate were high, and the ones who had a positive attitude or highest satisfaction were people who only graduated elementary school. People who graduated community college showed least satisfaction. Regarding the content of the program, field of art showed positive attitude and the highest satisfaction. The more elders took classes, there view towards social participation and their rate of joining the program frequently were high, and their attitudes were positive.
After seeing such research result, for the sake of the perception regarding the life long education of aged population and the satisfaction of the program in the trend of higher education values, it is a critical moment where it needs a professional system where it can enhance quality levels and educational subjects; as it needs active support and participation from government policies. Therefore, different kinds of appropriate support that suits health, academic level, and the age of the elders, can bring results that maximize the opportunity for them to join the lifelong education.
