한·일 차이나타운 비교 고찰

Abstract

화교는 해외에 거주하는 중국인이라는 의미를 지니고 있다. 필자가 부산에서 유학생활을 하면서 부산 차이나타운의 유래 및 부산 화교사회의 형성과 현황에 대해 깊은 관심을 가지게 되었다. 본 연구는 화교의 집중 거주지인 차이나타운을 연구대상으로 삼아 한·일 양국의 대표적 항구도시 부산과 나가사키의 차이나타운을 중심으로 살펴보며 이를 바탕으로 비교대조 연구를 진행하고자 하였다. 부산과 나가사키 화교사회의 형성과 화교 생활상의 변화, 차이나타운에 대한 고찰과 비교가 이루어졌다. 본 연구는 한·중·일 삼국의 다양한 화교관련 연구문헌을 바탕으로 차이나타운 형성배경과 변천과정, 현지답사를 통해 차이나타운 거리 현황에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 또 화교들의 실제 생활과 생각을 이해하기 위해서 차이나타운에서 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 부산과 나가사키 화교사회의 성립·화교 출신지·화교 생활상·정체성 인식·변천 과정·현황 등 다방면에 걸쳐서 상호 비교하여 공통성과 차이성을 뚜렷하게 나타냈다. 차이나타운과 화교에 대한 연구는 21세기 글로벌리즘시대의 오늘날, 세계화의 확대와 더불어 더 많은 외국으로 진출하고 싶은 중국인에 대해 도움이 될 것이다.

Overseas Chinese are people of descendants who live outside the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China(Taiwan). While studying abroad in Busan, Korea over 2 years, my interest regarding the Chinatown in Busan began to develop, in some aspects of the origin, formation and development of the people living in Chinatown of Busan. This study will take a close look at the Chinatown in Busan, Korea and one in Nagasaki, Japan. To investigate more on the similarities and differences of the Chinatown between two cities, a comparative was carried out. To large extent, the Chinatown of two cities was compared to each other, covering the life style changes among Chinese living abroad, formation of the their society and development of Chinatown. This study is based on various Chinese-related research literature from Korea, China and Japan, while providing opportunities for interdisciplinary research and study. And it was attempted to analyze Chinatown through examining its background, the process of transformation and on-site talks. In order to get a deeper perspectives of their real lives and thoughts, I also carried out an interview for some Chinese people living in both Busan and Nagasaki. It clearly show that there are distinct similarities and differences between 2 cities, ranging across areas of formation of the Chinese communities, the birthplace, the identity and perception of overseas Chinese over time. In summary, my study explores not only background history of Chinatown establishment, but also current status of overseas Chinese that should not be neglected. In that sense, continuous studies on Chinatown and overseas Chinese people have to be implemented.
