Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of self-leadership education program on leadership life skills and career preparation behaviors of high school students and to apply them to educational field. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, we set up the following research questions based on the theoretical background and previous studies. First, how does self-leadership education program affect high school students' leadership life skills? Second, how does the self-leadership education program affect high school students' career preparation behavior?
In order to verify the effectiveness of this study, 11 students in each experimental group and control group were selected from the first grade of high school and applied 9 sessions of self-leadership education program to evaluate the pre-post, experience diary of students, evaluation and testimony of the program. With the SPSS V22.0 statistical program the independent sample t-test was used to examine the homogeneity of the experimental group and the control group and the effectiveness of the leadership life skill and career preparation behavior of the two groups. The main conclusions of this study are as follows.
First, the self-leadership education program was effective in improving the leadership life skills of high school students. In terms of the sub-factors such as communication skills, decision making skill, organizational management skill, human relations skill, learning ability skill, self-understanding skill, and group activity skill, the self-leadership program had positive effects.
Second, self-leadership education program was effective in improving career preparation behavior for high school students. Among the sub-factors, excluding career counseling using specialized agencies and professionals, it was effective in exploring a career through peripherals, exploring a career using professional tools, and improving behavioral endeavors to achieve goals.
This study confirms that the self-leadership education program had a positive effect on improvement of leadership life skills and career preparedness behavior of students, and that it is needed to provide such programs to make young people pioneer their own lives creatively and leadingly for the future society, and to enable them to demonstrate leadership in all areas of life such as relationship with oneself and with others.
