The influence of ego-resilience and peer relationship on subjective well-being perceived by elementary school students
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of ego-resilience and peer relationship on subjective well-being perceived by elementary school students.
For the purpose of this study, the concrete research questions are as follows.
First, what is the relationship between ego-resilience perceived by elementary students, peer relations and subjective well–being?
Second, What are the influential of peer relationships and ego-resilience on subjective well-being?
Third, What are the influential of peer relationships and ego-resilience on each component of subjective well-being?
In order to verify research questions, self-report instruments were administered to 228 elementary school students in four-sixth grade at 1 elementary schools in B metropolitan city and 1 elementary school in Y small and medium-sized city.
The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
The summarized results of this study are as follows.
First, the ego-resilience and subjective well-being showed a significant positive correlation, and peer relationship and subjective well-being showed a significant positive correlation. Also, there was a significant positive correlation between ego-resilience and peer relationship.
Second, in this study, ego-resilience and peer relationship had influences on the subjective well-being.
Third, the results of the analysis of the relative influences of subjective well–being, the degree of influence on each component of subjective well-being was relatively different. Especially, vitality, which is a component of ego-resilience, had the greatest influence.
Therefore, it needs to consider the ego-resilience and the peer relationship , when develop the education program based on the subjective well-being.
The educational implications of the study are as follows.
In this study, based on these results, it is meaningful to utilize it as basic data to develop elemental students' personality development, pleasant school life, and psychological healthy and happy life.
