학교밖 청소년의 삶에 대한 현상학적 연구
- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to explore in what makes them quit studying in school, how they live their lives after that, and what are their goals in their lives to understand adolescents out of school from their viewpoints.
This study investigates the meaning and essence of subjective experience of the adolescents out of school through in-depth interviews with six participants, and deduce 3 themes, 8 categories and 22 formulated meanings by utilizing the method of Giorgi’s (1985) phenomenological analysis.
The results of this study are as follows: First, the adolescents out of school felt lonely and alienated, due to distrust of their parents from their parenting style or divorce, bullying from their school peers and indifferences from their peers and teachers before school dropout. This is the reason why they quit school, failing to adapt in school life, caused by lack of interest and lack of caring for them.
Second, the study shows that school dropouts have difficulties in prejudice and discrimination due to absence of their position in any communities and negative gaze.
However, it has shown that they have the feeling their life can change through the meeting with peers having similar experences in life, care and support from center teachers and club activities etc.
Third, this study has shown that school dropouts recognized the meaning of their life and set the goals of their own life, and hoped to be improved of a negative view of them and to be provided support service as soon as possible.
The purpose of this study is to understand adolescents out of school by tracing the backgrounds before and after dropout and exploring their experience of out of school and goal of their own life. In addition, it is needed to boost the organization to help adolescents out of school stand on their own and to support their career and counselling in policy.
